History of DNA repair

Origin and Production

In the late 1990s, a team of researchers who later formed
Optigenex, Inc., the developer of AC-11, journeyed into the Amazon
rainforest to research botanically-based traditional medicines and
their historical usage. Out of more than 100 plants studied, the
researchers found one, Uncaria tomentosa, a wild vine, that
stood out for its extraordinary biological activity. As prepared and
used for thousands of years by the native population, a crude extract
of the plant was renowned for its healing and restorative properties.

Extensive laboratory research subsequently isolated and identified
unique water-soluble components in the extract that were created during
the crude processing. The researchers classified these components as
carboxy alkyl esters (CAEs™). Their further research established the
scientific link between the CAEs and the previously unexplained power
of this traditional medicine. The discoveries led to the development of
a refined, pharmaceutically-based manufacturing process that enhanced
the safety, purity and effectiveness of the extract. Collectively,
these breakthroughs formed the basis of eight U.S. patents that today
distinguish AC-11 from all other commercially-available health products.

Sustainability

Uncaria tomentosa is harvested by Optigenex in an eco-friendly manner under authority of the Brazilian Institute of Environmental and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA). The methods employed during harvest ensure sustainability and preservation of the natural balance in the rainforest by protecting the root structures of the existing plants so that they will regenerate quickly. Moreover, harvesting is performed manually in a manner that does not disturb the pristine surrounding environment. All work in the region is conducted in cooperation within the Floravida Institutes (Brazil) guidelines for biodiversity conservation, environmental education and local community cooperation.

This patent is directed to a method for preparing an Uncaria extract and for its administration generally for pharmaceutical purposes.

This patent is directed to the composition of the Uncaria extract described in the ‘949 patent and its pharmaceutical use for enhancement of immune, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor responses.

This patent covers the pharmaceutical use of an Uncaria extract for DNA repair.

Patent No. 6,964,784 B2 "Method of preparation and composition of a water soluble extract of the bioactive component of the plant species Uncaria for enhancing immune, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor and DNA repair processes of warm blooded animals"

This patent covers the pharmaceutical use of an Uncaria extract for DNA repair.

Patent No. 7,579,023 B2 "Method of preparation and composition of a water soluble extract of the bioactive component of the plant species Uncaria for enhancing immune, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and DNA repair processes of warm blooded animals"

The application is a division of the application which led to the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 6,964,784. Eight claims have been allowed directed to the method for isolating a bioactive component of the Uncaria extract. The claims are further directed to the isolated bioactive component being a carboxy alkyl ester, a quinic action analog, a quinic acid lactone and/or in a pharmaceutical composition.

Patent No. 7,595,064 B2 "Method of preparation and composition of a water soluble extract of the bioactive component of the plant species Uncaria for enhancing immune, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and DNA repair processes of warm blooded animals"

The application is a continuation-in-part of the application which issued as U.S. Patent No. 6,964,784. There are two allowed claims which are directed to a method of preparing and administering quinic acid or quinic acid salt to enhance DNA repair.

Patent No. 7,955,626 B2 "Method for enhancing the DNA repair process, treating disorders associated with the DNA repair process, enhancing anti-tumor response and treating disorders associated with anti-tumor response in mammals by administering purified quinic acid and/or carboxy alkyl ester"

The patent is a continuation of the application which issued as U.S. Patent No. 7,579,023. There are 20 claims covering the administration and pharmaceutical use of an isolated purified quinic acid alkyl ester or carboxy alkyl ester for DNA repair or treating disorders associated with the DNA repair process.

Patent No. 7,947,312 "Method of preparation and composition of a water soluble extract of the bioactive component of the plant species Uncaria for enhancing immune, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and DNA repair processes of warm blooded animals".

The patent is a continuation of the application that issued as U.S. Patent No. 7,595,064. There are ten claims directed to a method of enhancing DNA repair or treating disorders associated therewith by administering quinic acid or quinic acid salt where the quinic acid or salt thereof may form an ammonium salt or chelate thereof.
